One of the best things about having a patio is being able to use it. But they do have to be strong enough to support not only the weight of the awning canopy itself, but any rain or snow that might land on them and to stay upright, not blowing around in case of a strong wind. And the motors need to be heavy duty enough to extend and retract your patio canopy covering no matter what the weather conditions.
